The first half of 2026 records a slowdown in exports of the Italian wood-furnishing supply chain in three of the main production regions of Northern Italy. According to analyses by the FederlegnoArredo Research Center on Istat foreign trade data, Lombardy records a decrease of 3.9%, Veneto 4.4% and Friuli-Venezia Giulia 5.4% compared with the same period in 2025. Trentino-Alto Adige, on the contrary, posts a 2% increase.
These results are driven by an international situation that remains particularly complex and, above all, by contractions in exports to the United States and Germany.
Lombardy
Lombardy confirms itself as the leading Italian region by value of exports of the wood-furnishing supply chain: €2.2 billion, equal to 29% of the national total, with a decrease of 3.9% compared with the same period in 2025.
In the first six months of 2026 France remains the main destination market, despite a contraction of 9.1%, followed by the United States (-7.3%) and Germany (-10.4%); exports to the UK (+5.2%), Switzerland (+2.5%) and Spain (+4.2%) are, instead, increasing.
In the furniture sector, Lombardy keeps the top national position with just under €1.5 billion of exports, equal to 28% of the total, although it records a decrease of 3.9% mainly due to missed sales to the US, the second market, which posts -13.5%; France, still the leading market, records -6.5%. Exports to Switzerland (+2.2%), the UK (+10.3%) and Spain (+4.1%) increase.
Counter-trend is Monza and Brianza, which records positive performance with exports of the wood-furnishing supply chain amounting to €613 million, up 3%, mainly due to strong exports to the UK (+40.6% for €26 million).

Veneto
A contraction is also recorded in Veneto, which remains the second region nationally with €1.8 billion of exports, equal to 23% of the national total, recording a decrease of 4.4% compared with the first half of 2025.
France remains the main destination market, despite a decrease of 5% (€14 million less); the contraction towards Germany is more marked, with -11.8%, equal to €30 million less. Negative signs also for the USA, in third place, which record -4.1%, the UK -0.2%, and Spain -2.4%.
The furniture sector of Veneto exported €1.3 billion in the first half, equal to 26% of the national total, marking a decrease of 5.1%. Among the top ten destinations, Switzerland (+9.2%) and Canada (+20.3%) show positive trends. Russia enters the Top 10 thanks to +6.9%, while China slips to 12th place with -9.8%.
Treviso confirms itself as the leading Italian province by total value of exports of the wood-furnishing supply chain, with over €1 billion and is also the top Italian province for the value of wood exports, about €114 million. However, it is among the top ten Italian provinces the one that records the largest loss of 8.3%, more than €10 million less.
In the furniture sector alone, Treviso remains the top Italian province with €826 million of exports, down 4.2% compared with the first half of 2025. The most significant losses are towards France (-2.6%) and especially Germany, which loses about €20 million (-14.5%); Canada and Switzerland instead increase.

Friuli-Venezia Giulia
Friuli-Venezia Giulia also closes the first half down: exports, which represent 15% of the national total, record a decrease of 5.4% compared with the same period in 2025.
The United Kingdom remains the top destination, recording a growth of 2.4% and exports to Spain (+6.5%) and Poland (+15.2%) are also positive. The most significant decline also concerns the United States, with a fall of 19.5%, equal to €35 million less, and Germany, which also records -19.5%, for a value of about €145 million.
At provincial level, Pordenone confirms itself as the second Italian province for exports of the wood-furnishing supply chain, with €746 million, down 4.9%, particularly affected by missed exports to the United States (-21.8%). The main contribution to this Region’s exports comes from furniture, which in the first six months of 2026 reach €937 million, down 6.1%. Also in the furniture sector, Pordenone confirms itself as the second Italian province by export value, with €697 million, down 5.1% compared with the first half of 2025.

Trentino-Alto Adige
The situation in Trentino-Alto Adige is different: in the first six months of 2026 it recorded an increase of 2%, reaching €172 million. The Region ranks ninth for supply chain exports, but reaches fourth position in the wood sector, which represents 67% of the total supply chain, with a value of €115 million and a 4.7% increase.
With a 3% growth compared with the first half of 2025, Germany confirms itself as the first destination country for the Region’s wood exports, for a value around €33 million. Following are Austria (+13.1%), Switzerland (+5.2%) and France (+11.7%). The United States show a negative figure with a contraction of 31.6%.
Bolzano is the second Italian province, after Treviso, for the value of wood exports with €109 million and a growth of +7%. For the supply chain Bolzano, with its €158 million, records an increase of 2.7%, supported above all by a particularly strong performance in the United Kingdom (+67.8%), followed by Switzerland (+17.9%), Austria (+12.1%) and France (+0.7%). Germany is negative with -2.7%.
