The Lost Graduation Show: the 'supersalone' initiative dedicated to design schools

As part of “supersalone“, the special event organized in September by the Salone del Mobile.Milano and curated by architect Stefano Boeri, The Lost Graduation Show will take place, a large exhibition dedicated to design schools to promote a new generation of designers by recounting their enthusiasm and passion at a time of profound transition in the profession. The goal of the exhibition project is to give students from design schools around the world who graduated in 2020/21 an opportunity to present their projects to the public. Nearly 300 design schools in 59 countries have already received an open call for participation in The Lost Graduation Show.
Curator and creator of the exhibition is Anniina Koivu, design writer, consultant and teacher, who explains this exhibition project: “Every year, a visit to Salone del Mobile.Milano is a source of energy and new ideas. Today, after an 18-month blackout, we can't wait to speed up, get back to production, meet in person, have fun. I'm sure “supersalone“ will interrupt the standby mode we all languish in. The Lost Graduation Show will provide a unique opportunity to pick up the slack, assess with fresh eyes what are the most pressing issues design should be dealing with and what directions it should choose. What better way to restart than by paying attention to the questions of the new generation of designers and the answers they are proposing? The great thing will be to discover how the issues that matter most to young creatives are surprisingly similar all over the world. Gathering them all together on a global stage represents the opportunity for a renaissance.“

Create, defend and spread the culture of design

The exhibition will touch not only all areas of furniture design, but also those related to the world of mobility, inclusive design, medical and sports, research on materials and sustainability of the project, investigating the new languages of living and proposing possible solutions to the most urgent issues posed to contemporary design.
Organized by topics, The Lost Graduation Show will offer design schools the opportunity to promote and support their students, bringing them together from the 5 continents, to try to offer interesting insights and tell the proposals of a new generation of designers.
“The ultimate goal of Salone del Mobile.Milano is to create, defend and spread the culture of design and know-how. For this reason, helping design schools in the promotion of professional profiles able to deal with the complexity of the world and to imagine and plan a better future through design has always been in its DNA,“ comments Marco Sabetta, general director of the event.
In addition to the physical exhibition, the digital platform @thelostgraduationshow will host all the selected works and a jury of international experts and protagonists of the design world will evaluate the projects submitted and award the best in each category.
