On the occasion of Milan Design Week 2025, Materia 2.0, a benchmark in high-end materials for architecture, inaugurated, in the heart of Porta Nuova, the largest materioteca in Italy, a center of excellence for research, study and design to support students, designers, universities and professionals.
Italy's most comprehensive material encyclopedia
Materia 2.0 is the new 500-square-meter interdisciplinary hub that brings together in one place 1,200 samples, 5,000 exhibits, and more than 15,000 products in the catalog where you can freely touch, juxtapose, and combine samples, creating customized moodboards with the support of a team of dedicated specialists.
The heart of the space is a scenic thirty-meter linear gallery that holds samples classified by material, standardized in 20x20 cm format, easily handled even for surfaces with significant thicknesses, and accompanied by information panels and QR codes to access technical details and variants. Alongside are also a series of rooms with unconventional layouts and archival spaces.

Fabio Pecora, founder and general manager of Materia 2.0, which was founded and still operates in Como, explained that “the opening of the new office in Milan represents a significant evolution for Materia 2.0, which gives birth to the most complete Italian materic encyclopedia: a meticulous collection of materials - surfaces, furniture, light - according to a systemic, global and interdisciplinary approach, in which the result exceeds the sum of its parts.”

Traditional materials and industrial products
Materia 2.0 offers a detailed repertoire of materials and products from Italian manufacturing companies and artisanal realities that collaborate with each other to shape the design of the future, focusing on advanced research, sustainability and enhancement of the material heritage, thus celebrating the excellence of Made in Italy. “Materia 2.0 is the meeting point between artisanal heritage and technological innovation, combining the richness of traditional materials with the potential of the most advanced industrial products. - says Pecora again - The materioteca enhances historical raw materials by exploring new applications, selecting high-performance solutions developed with cutting-edge technologies.”

Significant social media presence
With more than 250,000 followers on Instagram, Materia 2.0 is also the most followed material library on social thanks to moodboards that tell stories through compositions of selected materials, photographed to enhance their qualities. “Our presence on social is not just a showcase, but a real tool of inspiration for planners, designers and material enthusiasts,” says Silvia Spreafico, design manager of Materia 2.0. ”Through curated and innovative content, we tell the potential of materials, their applications and the connections between tradition and innovation.”
