The exhibitors of interzum 2023, scheduled in Cologne from 9 to 12 May, have until 24 February 2023 to present their new products, materials, solutions and projects for the furniture industry and interior design and participate in the interzum award 2023, the design competition that Koelnmesse is hosting for the twelfth time, in collaboration with Red Dot.

The award underlines the importance of design, sustainability and innovation as elements capable of providing added value and is used by the winners to more effectively promote the validity of their products.

An international jury of experts will select the most innovative products in the sector in the "Function & Components", "Materials & Nature", "Textile & Machinery" categories and in the new "Neo Ecology" category, which recognizes the innovations most attentive to respect for environment.

 

Neo Ecology: a new category in competition

This year's central theme for interzum, the leading international trade fair for the subcontracting of the furniture and interior design industry, is "Neo Ecology" with the aim of giving impetus to a more sustainable economy by emphasizing the key issues of the future, such as sustainability, climate protection and resource efficiency. All the more reason for the interzum award 2023 to address this topic, so that companies, for the first time, can enter their innovations in the new "Neo Ecology" category.

"Today, issues related to respect for the environment such as resource conservation, sustainability and the circular economy are also involving the subcontracting industry", explains interzum director Maik Fischer. “The industry itself is proposing innovative concepts and solutions for products, production methods and materials. By awarding an award in the 'Neo Ecology' category, we want to recognize their relevance and help raise their profile."

 

An international jury of experts

The international jury of experts, made up of authoritative members such as Luisa Bocchietto, Katrin de Louw, Frederik Lauwaert, Kristina Mayer, Sascha Peters, Martin Stosch and Peter Zec, will evaluate all the participants in the competition in terms of design quality, innovation potential and aspects such as sustainability or the meaningful integration of digital components. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, in particular Goal 12 “Responsible Consumption and Production” and Goal 13 “Climate Action”, will guide the assessment in the new “Neo Ecology” category.

 

Awards ceremony and exhibition in presence and virtual

The recommended companies will be celebrated on 8 May 2023 during the official award ceremony to be held during the opening event of interzum 2023. The products, materials and concepts that win an award at the interzum award 2023 will be exhibited to visitors international professionals in a special exhibition that will run for the entire duration of the fair.

Furthermore, on 15 and 16 May 2023, the winning works will be presented at the interzum @home 2023 virtual event and exhibited in a dedicated virtual showroom. The online exhibition at www.interzum.com/en/award will present the awarded products and projects with text and images.
