- Companies: strategies and future
An advanced manufacturing reality in Italy and Europe in the production of flexible block polyurethanes, Vefer has always pursued a policy of excellence in the finished product, but also adopts innovative production practices such as the Lean Plastic working method aimed at minimizing environmental impact.
We asked Antonio Minotti, General Manager of Vefer, to explain the principles on which this working method is based and which goals the company has managed to achieve through their application.
"Vefer has chosen to continue determinedly on its path toward operational excellence through the Lean Plastic working method, a project launched in 2022 in collaboration with experienced professionals. This initiative is based on fundamental principles, such as workflow improvement, innovation, sustainability and the active involvement of all employees. These principles do not only represent a methodological change, but a true corporate culture that permeates every aspect of the organization.
The Lean Plastic approach is based on some key concepts that guide the way the company operates. Every activity is analyzed and evaluated in order to identify any unnecessary steps that may cause delays. Through this analysis, Vefer aims to create a working environment in which every step is essential and contributes to quality, an essential value for our customer".
What are the priorities in Vefer's business strategy in light of the Lean Plastic method?
“Research and continuous improvement are fundamental pillars. The idea is that one should never stop, but rather always push forward, seeking new opportunities for optimization of production flows. This approach encourages a mindset open to learning and experimentation. The company has invested in specific courses to train personnel on Lean Plastic techniques, as well as on essential tools such as dedicated software and the 5S+1 method. These courses not only provide technical skills, but also promote awareness of the importance of workplace safety, an indispensable element in any production context”.

How is the pursuit of quality expressed in a company like yours that has always been oriented toward product excellence?
"Vefer has numerous projects in the pipeline. Although they are multiple and diverse, they all share a common denominator: quality. It is not only about producing high-level goods and services, but about ensuring that every investment, every decision and every process are aimed at strengthening the quality of the final product. This vision translates into a constant commitment to exceed customer expectations, while maintaining careful attention to costs and operational efficiency.
Quality, therefore, becomes the pivot on which Vefer raises its organizational and strategic structure. A perfect alignment between human resources, processes and technologies creates an ecosystem in which everyone feels an active part of the company's mission. Employees are considered the beating heart of the company and, therefore, their involvement is fundamental. Through continuous training and recognition of merits, Vefer intends to develop a motivated and competent team, ready to face future challenges with a collaborative spirit".
Other interesting aspects related to this method?
"One of the most significant transformations that the Lean Plastic method has brought to Vefer has been the change in company culture. Ideas and proposals can come from all levels of the organization, and feedback is actively sought. This creates a positive working environment where everyone feels valued and encouraged to contribute to collective success.
The aspect of safety has become an integral part of the daily routine. In addition to training courses, Vefer promotes regular meetings to discuss safety practices and improvements in working conditions. Employee health and well-being are considered absolute priorities, and this is reflected in the company's overall results".

Materials—ever more sustainable, smart and high-performing—have become a central theme of design. What are your innovation strategies?
"In line with the Lean Plastic philosophy and the focus on quality, Vefer addresses issues related to sustainability. In a world increasingly attentive to environmental issues, the company is committed to reducing its ecological impact through optimization of production processes and the use of sustainable materials. Technological innovation plays a crucial role in this process, and Vefer is open to adopting advanced digital solutions to further improve efficiency and work quality.
From an investment standpoint, Vefer continues replacing machinery with newer, higher-performing and safer ones, and also implementing a new management system that will improve data reliability, speed up work and ensure material traceability.
Vefer continues to focus on high-performing and sustainable materials. Among these: BIOGREEN UP polyols based on castor vegetable oil with C14 certification declaring 25% renewable material, CIRCULARREFOAM using 30% recycled polyol, CM with graphite as a natural flame-retardant component".
