Designing an upholstered piece of furniture requires reconciling aesthetic, production and performance aspects. When specific fire behavior requirements come into play, the materials placed between the padding and the covering also play a decisive role.

This is where Fireblock Pro (patent pending), the new technical flame-retardant fabric for upholstery developed by Delitex, comes in.

The solution has been designed primarily as a fire-retardant interliner, that is, as a separation layer between the internal padding and the external covering fabric.

One of the distinctive elements of Fireblock Pro is the directly Velcro-attachable surface, which allows attachment without having to apply Velcro separately.

The laminated structure also includes a non-woven layer of intrinsically flame-retardant Preox fibers that do not require additional chemical treatments, and a fire-retardant system free of bromine and chlorine.

The greater flexibility of the material makes it easier to adapt to curved or shaped structures as well, helping to simplify manufacturing and the integration of the interliner into the various geometries of upholstered furniture.

Fireblock Pro has also been developed in response to the needs of the UK market.

In the United Kingdom, the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988 set specific fire behavior requirements for upholstered furniture and foresee, in certain configurations, the use of an interliner compliant with Schedule 3 CRIB 5, according to the test methods of BS 5852.

Fireblock Pro was developed taking this specific application area into account and the needs of manufacturers producing upholstered furniture intended for markets with specific fire performance requirements.
