The international furnishing showcase – the Salone del Mobile.Milano – is making its first appearance in Miami during the all-important Design Miami/Art Basel week with an event produced in partnership with the Ministry for Economic Development and ICE - Italian Trade Agency. The event is geared to supporting contemporary furnishing and fostering the value of Italian furnishing in the US. Featuring 46 Italian exhibiting companies and
sectoral leaders already on-site with prestigious monobrand showrooms or outlets inleading multibrand shops.
The event – from 2nd to 6th December 2015 – “begins” with the Red Skyline installation at the Pérez Art Museum Miami and the Museum Park, which will be coloured red for the occasion, becoming a beacon with three big led-wall cubes onto which images of the companies’ products, Italian design and the history of the Salone del Mobile.Milano, from its inception in 1961 to today, will be projected. The event then “continues” in the Miami
Design District and Coral Gables, threading from one showroom to the next in the pursuit of quality contemporary furnishing, from furniture to furnishing accessories, from kitchens to bathroom furniture and lighting systems.

Miami was chosen as the locus for the event on the basis of its current strong economic growth and the fact that it is fast becoming America’s new financial trade centre with the building of the new port, new infrastructures and major housing initiatives. The city has become an essential port of call for all those working in the design world, attracting operators from Central and South America too.
“The Salone del Mobile.Milano exhibition-event in Miami, during Art Basel, marks the start of a wider promotion campaign for Italian furnishing and design. America is now one of the sector’s prime markets. This has generated an ad hoc campaign geared to strengthening the image and reputation of the Salone del Mobile.Milano brand on the US market, kicking off in Miami, which is famous for its ability to attract investments
from all over the world,” stresses Deputy Minister for Economic Development Carlo Calenda.
“America has again become financially competitive. US GDP is set to grow 3.6% in 2015, and forecast to rise 3.3% in 2016. The total number of new constructions rose 4% in 2014 and predictions for 2015 are for 9% growth. In June, exports to the US were up 26% on the same period last year, driven by kitchens (+80%), upholstereds (+51%) and lighting (+36%). Exporting the Salone does not just mean fostering awareness of companies capable of networking and handling extremely large-scale contracts, it also means presenting the Italian take on design,” says Salone del Mobile.Milano President Roberto Snaidero.
