Materials Village 2018: technologies dedicated to colour and sustainability

Materials Village, Material ConneXion Italia's hub dedicated to materials, new technologies and sustainability, will take place again this year during the Milano Design Week from April 16th to 22nd in Superstudio Più spaces in via Tortona 27.

Materials Village increasingly focuses its attention on the promotion of innovative and efficient materials, addressing a transversal public that touches different sectors: from interior design to building, from textiles to architecture.

After the success achieved last year, which saw the presence of over 135,000 visitors, Materials Village covers for this edition an area of over 1,850 square meters, occupying the entrance of Superstudio and the entire Art Garden, a tree-lined garden that for the occasion will turn into a village.

Every year, Materials Village offers an impressive setting, but for this 5th edition it even doubles, with two large installations signed respectively by Studio Marco Piva and Yona Friedman.

A scenic tower designed by architect and designer Marco Piva will welcome visitors to the Fuorisalone, a work that will present the primary materials that form the basis of an architectural project. Next to the tower will be developed the theme of the circular economy, protagonist of another installation for CONAI and the Consortia di Filiera for the recycling of packaging waste, curated by Yona Friedman, a famous Hungarian become naturalized French utopist-architect, designer and urban planner, always committed to the world of sustainability and the circular economy.

Materials Village will also host more than 20 companies connected to the world of materials and production processes, which will present cutting-edge design and technological proposals in terms of aesthetics, sustainability, optimization and circular economy.

Among the many novelties of this edition, also stands out the participation of names of excellence as partners such as PUMA and the MIT Design Lab, interdisciplinary research laboratory of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston, which together present the latest innovations on research in the field of biodesign, showcasing a performance fabric that reacts differently based on the percentage of atmospheric pollution, in particular unisex t-shirts equipped with sensors able to detect the level of danger in the air.

The Material ConneXion Italia hub committed to materials will host the technologies dedicated to the colour of various exhibiting companies this year, such as manufacturers of acrylic paints, pure pigments, water colours for ceramics, fabric and glass, as well as paints resistant to wear, chemical agents and sun rays: ecological products that aim to improve the environmental impact. Improving the quality of life also passes through a thorough knowledge of materials and a culture that is consistent with the principles of sustainability.
