The winners of the XXV Compasso d'Oro ADI: protagonist of quality design

The most famous award of Italian design on show at the Castello Sforzesco

The winners of the XXV Compasso d'Oro ADI: protagonist of quality design

The award ceremony of the XXV edition of the Compasso d'Oro ADItook place on 20 June in the Cortile della Rocchetta of the Castello Sforzesco in Milan.

The ADI Compasso d'Oro award is the most authoritative on the Italian design scene and has taken on an increasingly international look in recent years. From the next edition, in 2020, it will be even more international as the Italian and international trends will be brought together, offering a rich section of products from all over the world.

The 2018 edition of the Compasso d'Oro ADI focused on design in everyday life and the same theme was developed in the installation created by the IED Milan School of Visual Arts, which has developed the relationship between sociality in nine daily episodes, some millennials and some icons of design.

There were more than 1,200 candidates for the preselection of the award in the two-year period 2016-2017, 283 products submitted to the international jury, but only 16 were awarded the prize. Others 56, the international jury were assigned a Honorable Mention. As usual, the award was given to both designers and producers of objects. In addition to these awards, there are 11 Compasso d'Oro career awards, assigned by the ADI to prominent personalities and companies in the Italian and international design scene, as well as 3 prizes and 10 plaudits of the Targa Giovani award, awarded to projects made in Italian design university schools by young people at the beginning of their careers.

At the centre there is always the quality of design: the international jury, made up of about 150 specialists (designers, researchers, specialized journalists), selects the products for the final selection among the reported products and among these chooses the winners.

The exhibition is open to the public until June 26 and is accompanied by a catalogue in Italian and English (graphic design by Stefano Reboli).
